Fossil fuels have powered human growth and ingenuity for centuries. However, fossil fuel resources are limited, and obtaining, transporting and burning fossil fuels are creating problems for the environment, public health and national security. We need to prepare for moving beyond fossil fuels and transitioning to clean, renewable energy sources.

Burning fossil fuels since the Industrial Revolution has resulted in unprecedented carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere, causing global warming and climate change. A Clean Energy Revolution that stops CO2 pollution is needed to curb global warming and stabilize the climate.
National Priorities are:
1. GREEN JOBS: Start a Clean Energy Job Corps and create five million Green jobs in the U.S. The Corps will focus on energy efficiency and conservation measures, cutting global warming pollution 20% by 2015. Green jobs are needed to manufacture and implement clean energy technology. 2. CUT CARBON POLLUTION: Cut global warming pollution 25% by 2020, and at least 80% below the 1990 level by 2050, as indicated by climate scientists. Pass climate policies in support of Clean Energy. 3. NO NEW COAL: Moratorium on new coal-fired power plants. The feasibility and cost to capture and sequester CO2 are not known. Redirect fossil fuel investments to support Clean Energy sources like wind, solar, geothermal, hydro, and inedible biomass. These priorities are endorsed by the national movements, StepItUp2007 and 1Sky. |
